Was Genesis 7 a global flood or a local flood?
The question always involved in the battlefront of whether God created everything in six days is, “Was Genesis 7 a global flood or a local flood?” That is a major point of contention between theistic evolutionists and the Bible. The theory of evolution forbids its followers from accepting the notion of a global flood. Let us look at a couple of verses in Genesis 7 to see what the Bible describes:
Then the flood came upon the earth for forty days, and the water increased and lifted up the ark, so that it rose above the earth. 18The water prevailed and increased greatly upon the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. 19The water prevailed more and more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains everywhere under the heavens were covered. 20The water prevailed fifteen cubits higher, and the mountains were covered. 21All flesh that moved on the earth perished, birds and cattle and beasts and every swarming thing that swarms upon the earth, and all mankind; 22of all that was on the dry land, all in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, died. 23Thus He blotted out every living thing that was upon the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky, and they were blotted out from the earth; and only Noah was left, together with those that were with him in the ark.
This passage clearly recorded a global flood that killed all that had the breath of life on dry land. This global flood covered every mountain. Albeit, the mountains during the Genesis Flood were not as high as they are now. This is easily explained with fast tectonic plate movement during the global flood, which is alluded to in Psalm 104:5-9. Those verses tell us that the mountains rose and the valleys sank during the end of the Flood. The global flood caused such things as the fossil record, layers of the crust, oil reservoirs, coal deposits, salt deposits, oceans, and polar ice.
Those Christians that reject a global flood, do so based on their belief in the opinions of evolutionary scientists. Yet they call themselves Christians. But they are stuck with a dilemma. The Bible plainly recorded that the entire earth was flooded.
So what do they do?
They merely slough it off, and ignore the science and empirical data that support a global flood. They will also ignore the various cultures around the globe, that are descendants of Noah, that also recorded a global flood. These theistic evolutionists will go through mental hurdles to twist the Bible verses that recorded a global flood. Lastly, theistic evolutionists resort to mocking creationists who are faithful to the Word of God.
Did God destroy a local area with a flood or did He destroy the entire earth with a global flood?
The theistic evolutionist will rely on their only source for protection, the opinions of evolutionary scientists. But their lack of fidelity to the Scripture is met with another unsolvable problem. I draw your attention to Genesis 9 and the promise from God to never flood the entire Earth with a global flood ever again:
Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying, 9“Now behold, I Myself do establish My covenant with you, and with your descendants after you; 10and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you; of all that comes out of the ark, even every beast of the earth. 11“I establish My covenant with you; and all flesh shall never again be cut off by the water of the flood, neither shall there again be a flood to destroy the earth.” 12God said, “This is the sign of the covenant which I am making between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all successive generations; 13I set My bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth.14“It shall come about, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow will be seen in the cloud, 15and I will remember My covenant, which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and never again shall the water become a flood to destroy all flesh.
Does God violate His promise?
God gave His promise to never flood the entire Earth again. Theistic evolutionists are stuck because they believe what the atheists say, “that it was a local flood.” Therefore, theistic evolutionists are claiming that in Genesis 9:8-15 God is promising to never do a local flood again, that God is promising to never flood a region again. Well, in 2011, Japan’s entire east coast was flooded, multiple cities, multiple towns, and multiple villages were wiped off the face of the map by a Tsunami.
The implications:
Therefore, either God is right or theistic evolutionists are guilty of evil against God. If God is correct, then the Theistic evolutionists are guilty of leading many away from the Word of God. I pray that they repent of their evil for preaching the lies of Satan that the global flood was merely local.
Below is a video of the Tsunami in one area, but there were many, many regions swept away completely.

…or the classic response: If it was just a local flood, why didn’t Noah just march the menagerie up over the hill to higher ground instead of lowering them into the ark. They can’t get past the part about the flood covering the highest mountains to a height of 15 cubits. That’s abut 22′-29′ feet, enough for the draft of the ark, notwithstanding that “mountains” were not as tall before the flood as after because the above water hadn’t as yet fallen as the roofs of the empty cisterns below collapsed allowing the water to rush in and pressure the continents to rise.
Great response.
